About The Position

The Respiratory Therapist provides services prescribed by a physician for the assessment, diagnostic evaluation, treatment, management, and monitoring of patients of all ages (Neonate through Geriatric) with cardio-pulmonary function deficiencies and abnormalities. This role requires the ability to perform routine, non-critical, critical, emergent, and advanced modalities of respiratory care, with established competency. The therapist must be able to administer and understand Broncho pulmonary drugs, including their actions, delivery modes, hazards, contraindications, and adverse side effects. Critical thinking and effective time management are essential for prioritizing patient care. The position also involves effective documentation, recommending therapy changes, contributing to quality improvement, and efficient resource utilization.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care approved Respiratory Therapy Program.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist by the National Board of Respiratory Care.
  • Current Alabama License.
  • Must have BCLS within six (6) months of employment date.
  • Must have ACLS within six (6) months of employment date.
  • Must have PALS within six (6) months of employment date.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and verbal forms.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in an emergency.
  • Annual completion of competency requirements.
  • Basic typing and computer skills.
  • Sufficient experience as a Respiratory Therapist to be qualified to work in a setting without assistance.
  • Reachable by personal phone number twenty-four (24) hours a day.

  • Previous critical care experience
  • Experience in operating personal computers in a Windows environment

Responsibilities

  • Provide services prescribed by a physician for the assessment, diagnostic evaluation, treatment, management, and monitoring of patients of all ages to include Neonate through Geriatric years with many types of deficiencies and abnormalities of cardio-pulmonary function.
  • Perform routine, non-critical, critical, emergent and advanced modalities of respiratory care for which the employee has established completed competency requirements.
  • Appropriately perform clinical functions and adjust approach as needed to meet age-specific populations, including appropriate communication.
  • Administer and demonstrate knowledge base of Broncho pulmonary drugs, including medication actions, delivery modes, hazards, contraindications and adverse side effects.
  • Utilize critical thinking skills to set priorities in providing patient care that demonstrates effective time management techniques.
  • Perform effective documentation using guidelines established in the hospital/departmental policy and procedural manuals.
  • Recommend and implement changes in patient’s therapy when appropriate.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the provision of high quality service and contribute to quality outcomes and performance improvement in the department as well as the hospital.
  • Seek out opportunities to contribute above-and-beyond stated job assignments, particularly in times of need.
  • Identify and comply with hospital/departmental policies and regulatory standards.
  • Utilize organizational, human, financial, equipment and supply resources efficiently and appropriately.
