About The Position

This position is responsible for the competent delivery of all Respiratory Care procedures as outlined in the department policy and procedure manual. The Respiratory Therapist will maintain accurate and complete documentation, verify physician’s orders, and prepare and deliver reports. They will attend and participate in department in-services, meetings, and patient care rounds. This role involves data entry of services and charges, troubleshooting equipment, and performing airway management. The therapist will also assist in the orientation and training of new employees and students. Key responsibilities include performing arterial blood gas draws, initiating and monitoring ventilator patients, and completing required continuous training. The role also requires compliance with personal protective equipment requirements and performing patient charge reconciliation. Additionally, the therapist will verify time for payroll preparation and possess a working knowledge of all cardiopulmonary equipment. They will proficiently perform all assigned modalities, translate medication into neonatal and pediatric doses, assess adult and geriatric patients for special needs, and assess and provide mechanical ventilation for adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients under physician direction. The ability to fully assess patient respiratory status, make recommendations, and document progress is essential. The role also includes performing other duties as assigned. Requirements

Competent delivery of all Respiratory Care procedures as outlined in the department policy and procedure manual.
Maintains accurate and complete documentation of all Respiratory Care procedures per department policy and procedures.
Verifies physician’s orders for Respiratory Care.
Receives and accurately prepares reports. Updates and completes patient information to reflect the patient's current clinical status. Prepares and is ready to receive/give a report at the specified report times.
Attends and participates in department in-services, meetings, patient care rounds, and mandatory hospital meetings.
Keep the supervisor apprised of changes in workload and patient acuity.
Data entry of all daily services and charges given to patients.
Demonstrates excellent working knowledge of Respiratory Care instruments and equipment. Performs troubleshooting with appropriate problem resolution.
Performs effective airway management to include bag/mask ventilation. Assists the physician with intubation. Demonstrates safe and appropriate suction techniques and uses of artificial airways.
Assists in the department’s orientation/training of new employees, respiratory/nursing students, and precepts new employees during orientation.
Performs arterial blood gas draws.
Initiates, maintains, and monitors ventilator patients. Interprets flow volumes and pressure volume curves to initiate appropriate clinical changes.
Completes required continuous training and education, including department-specific requirements.
Complies with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids, chemical disinfectants, radiation, asbestos, and other hazardous substances.
Performs patient charge reconciliation
Verifies accuracy and timely submission of time for payroll preparation.
Working knowledge of all cardiopulmonary equipment within training and education for RRT.
Proficiently performs all assigned modalities provided by cardiopulmonary services.
Translates medication into neonatal and pediatric doses, uses proper equipment and procedure regarding patient size, and addresses any special needs regarding type and severity of disease.
Assesses adult and geriatric patients for special needs by utilizing proper equipment and procedures regarding patient age and needs regarding type and severity of disease.
Assesses adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients’ ventilator needs; can functionally provide mechanical ventilation of the above patients under the direction of a qualified physician.
Ability to fully assess patient respiratory status, make recommendations for appropriate therapeutic interventions, and use assessment charting techniques to document status, progress, and effect of therapeutics.
