About The Position

The Respiratory Therapist provides inpatient respiratory care to chronic, critically ill patients in a critical illness recovery hospital specializing in post-ICU services and extended healing and recovery. The role includes assessing patients, recommending treatment plans, providing care for complex medical and surgical conditions, and supporting patients and families through treatment. The position is per diem/PRN, with day and night shifts available at Select Specialty Hospital - Charleston. Compensation is $35.00 per hour, with weekend shift differentials. A $5,000 sign-on bonus is offered. The hospital provides an extensive orientation program and notes the potential for per-diem staff to pursue full-time opportunities. Part-time and per-diem employees may qualify for 401(k) eligibility after reaching 1,000 hours within their first anniversary or a subsequent calendar year.

Requirements

• Hold an active CRT or RRT credential from the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) or state equivalent.
• Provide proof of graduation: a college transcript or diploma is preferred, or a high school transcript or diploma or GED.
• Possess Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by the start date.
• Hold current state licensure.
• Hold ACLS certification upon hire; agency respiratory therapists must have ACLS by their first shift.

Nice To Haves

• One year of related experience is preferred.
• A college transcript or diploma is preferred as proof of graduation.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients and recommend appropriate treatment plans.
• Provide respiratory care to patients with critical and complex medical and surgical conditions.
• Perform insertion and removal of endotracheal tubes.
• Promote continuous quality improvement.
• Teach and counsel patients and families.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
