About The Position

Licensed by the South Dakota State Board of Medical and Osteopathic Examiners, the Respiratory Care Practitioner/Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) principal duties are primarily in a home medical equipment (HME) environment. The RRT will assess, treat, and care for patients with acute or chronic cardiopulmonary disorders and associated aspects of other systems. The RRT assumes primary responsibility for ordered respiratory care modalities by initiating and conducting therapeutic and diagnostic procedures within their scope of practice and the assigned department’s scope of service. Respiratory care includes observing, assessing, and monitoring signs, symptoms, reactions, general behavior, and general physical response of individuals to respiratory care.

Requirements

  • Associates in Health Sciences
  • Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) - South Dakota Board of Medical and Osteopathic Examiners
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification - American Heart Association (AHA) - Within 60 days of hire or transfer.
  • Requires the ability to work assigned schedules and hours as determined by the department.
  • Very Heavy work - exerting over 25 pounds of force constantly (67-100% of the time), and/or more than 50 pounds frequently (34-66% of the time), and/or more than 100 pounds of force occassionally (up to 33% of the time), and/or more than 100 pounds of force seldomly to move objects.
  • Possible exposure to radiation and frequent exposure to contaminated needles and infectious body substances.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees respiratory functions of Monument Home Medical Equipment.
  • Oversees respiratory services by caregivers designated locations.
  • Participates in the orientation, mentorship and education of personnel and students.
  • Provides formal and informal teaching/learning opportunities to assist personnel to achieve and maintain competence necessary for safe and effective practice
  • Responsible for RT paperwork and required documents at designated location within the designated time frame as evidenced by documentation and observation.
  • Responsible for in-services on existing and new respiratory equipment.
  • Responsible for maintaining inventory of respiratory/HME supplies and equipment.
  • Responsible for overseeing respiratory equipment for customers, maintaining operation of equipment, filling processes, and assuring customer service at designated location.
  • Assist Management with providing suggestions for the respiratory equipment budget.
  • Assist Management with evaluation and recommendation of new types of equipment and services.
  • Responsible for maintaining 100% of all hospital and departmental required and mandatory education, competencies, certifications, and licensure specific to areas they are assigned.
  • Must be available to be scheduled as business needs require, Monday – Friday during business hours and rotate with team members to cover the on-call schedule.
