About The Position

The Respiratory Therapist provides respiratory care to patients. This role involves performing all aspects of respiratory care, including diagnostic tests of the cardio-pulmonary system, in accordance with established policies and procedures under the direction of the Medical Director, Department Director, or Coordinator/Team Leader. The therapist is also responsible for responding to emergency situations, maintaining competencies to ensure compliance with all regulatory statutes, administering medications and treatments, reporting unusual patient conditions/reactions, preparing electronic documentation, performing quality control on equipment, utilizing resources efficiently, maintaining a safe environment, addressing patient population-specific needs, and participating in Performance Improvement activities.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited AMA Respiratory Care Program
Possession of current RCP State of Texas License
Possession of current CRT / RRT Certification from NBRC
Must have active healthcare provider Basic Life Support on hire (ARC or AHA); however, must have AHA Healthcare Provider BLS within 60 days of hire
AHA ACLS must be completed within 60 days of hire or transfer into role
AHA PALS must be completed within 60 days of hire or transfer into role if covering Pedi
AHA NRP must be completed within 60 days of hire or transfer into role if covering NICU

Nice To Haves

Some experience in hospital respiratory care or related area

Responsibilities

Performs all aspects of respiratory care to include diagnostic test of the cardio-pulmonary system according to policy and procedures under the direction of the Medical Director, Department Director, Coordinator/Team Leader
Responds to emergency situations
Maintains competencies to ensure compliance with all regulatory statutes
Administers medication and treatments in accordance with established policies
Reports identified unusual patient conditions/reaction to immediate supervisor
Prepares electronic documentation of all work/service rendered and provides written/verbal report to oncoming staff
Performs quality control on all Respiratory Care equipment to include I-STAT blood gas analyzers
Utilizes resources efficiently and effectively
Maintains safe environment
Addresses patient population-specific needs
Participates in Performance Improvement activities
