About The Position

This position is responsible for the safe and effective administration of medically prescribed medications, understanding their indications and contraindications. The role involves administering therapeutic modalities such as HHN and lung expansion therapy, setting up and monitoring oxygen, and performing arterial punctures. The Respiratory Therapist will also be responsible for all aspects of artificial airway care, including deep blind tracheal suctioning, and the administration of various types of mechanical ventilation (BiPap and CPAP). Familiarity with oxygen delivery systems and measuring devices like pulse oximeters, respirometers, and ETCO2 is required. The position also includes setting up, safety checks, monitoring, and troubleshooting mechanical ventilators, as well as maintaining accurate patient records in the EMR and documenting all patient charges.

Requirements

Basic Life Safety (BLS) certification
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
Texas state license
Registered Respiratory Therapist by the National Board of Respiratory Care
Minimum five years in an acute care setting

Responsibilities

Administer medically prescribed medications, understanding their indications and contraindications.
Administer therapeutic modalities including HHN and lung expansion therapy.
Set up and monitor oxygen delivery systems.
Set up oxygen cylinders and ensure proper usage and safety measures.
Perform arterial punctures using radial and brachial sites.
Draw off arterial lines to obtain blood gas samples.
Perform all aspects of artificial airway care, including deep blind tracheal suctioning.
Administer all types of mechanical ventilation, including BiPap and CPAP.
Set up, safety check, monitor, and troubleshoot mechanical ventilators.
Maintain accurate and legible records, documenting clinical notes in EMR.
Complete documentation of all patient charges.
