About The Position

The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT or CRT), within the Ohio Scope of Practice, provides therapeutic procedures and diagnostic testing to chronically and acutely ill patients requiring respiratory procedures. The role involves providing Respiratory Care, ensuring an environment of patient safety, promoting evidence-based practice and quality initiatives, and exhibiting professionalism in the care of patients and their families. Responsibilities extend to performing duties outside the normal routine care of the patient, initiating and administering therapeutic procedures, diagnostic tests, and education in accordance with departmental policy and procedures. The therapist will record patient information and assessments on the patient’s medical record and maintain departmental records. Additionally, the role includes precepting new employees as requested and participating in students' clinical rotations, as well as demonstrating knowledge of and ability to maintain respiratory therapy equipment. Effective communication and collaboration with physicians, house staff, and other health care disciplines regarding patient care, treatment, and/or plan of care are essential.

Requirements

Successful completion of a 2 or 4 year Respiratory Care Program, or completion of additional educational requirements allowing eligibility to obtain registry credentials
Ohio Respiratory Care Professional License to practice in the State of Ohio
National Board of Respiratory Care credential indicating RRT or CRT
Clinical experience in adult and neonatal respiratory therapy procedures such as aerosolized delivery of medication, mechanical ventilation, assisting with intubations and extubations, pulmonary function studies, emergency care, and obtaining and interpreting arterial blood gases
Maintain current BLS certification
