About The Position

The Respiratory Therapist performs specific respiratory care duties and responsibilities under the supervision of the medical director. The Respiratory Therapist must be able to adapt to the particular area of duty assignment and must be able to perform special duties required by the assignment. The Respiratory Therapist performs all respiratory care procedures in accordance with established policies and procedures. The Respiratory Therapist must have advanced knowledge of cardiopulmonary physiology and other sciences related to respiratory care and be able to demonstrate these to others. A thorough understanding of the drugs used in respiratory care procedures is required. The Respiratory Therapist must exhibit mature judgment, honesty, integrity and a high sense of responsibility. Work must be performed with a high degree of accuracy and particular attention to detail. The Respiratory Therapist must be able to use tact and judgment when dealing with physicians, nurses, other hospital employees, patients and their families. The verbal ability to explain various procedures being performed or demonstrated to other employees, patients and their families is essential. This is a cross-campus position for both Mpls and St. Paul.

Requirements

  • Licensed with the State of Minnesota as a Respiratory Therapist.
  • Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) by The National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC).
  • RRT credential within 3 months in the role.
  • RRT must be maintained in active status.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • PALS, NRP certified or within 6 months in the role.
  • Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Care Program.
  • Advanced knowledge of cardiopulmonary physiology and other sciences related to respiratory care.
  • Thorough understanding of the drugs used in respiratory care procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Performs specific respiratory care duties and responsibilities under the supervision of the medical director.
  • Adapts to the particular area of duty assignment and performs special duties required by the assignment.
  • Performs all respiratory care procedures in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge of cardiopulmonary physiology and other sciences related to respiratory care.
  • Exhibits mature judgment, honesty, integrity and a high sense of responsibility.
  • Works with a high degree of accuracy and particular attention to detail.
  • Uses tact and judgment when dealing with physicians, nurses, other hospital employees, patients and their families.
  • Explains various procedures being performed or demonstrated to other employees, patients and their families.
  • Involved in airway management, ventilatory support (including high frequency and NAVA), asthma education, point of care testing, cystic fibrosis disease management, and emergency respiratory interventions.
  • Part of the rapid response team and the code team.
