Respiratory Therapist Summer 2026 Extern
About The Position
This Philadelphia Campus extern opportunity is for 1st year and 2nd year currently enrolled Respiratory Program students. Students in 1st year must have pre-requisites for Respiratory Therapist studies complete. This is a per diem position. The Respiratory Extern works within the Respiratory Care Department to deliver limited respiratory care support services under the supervision of an individual holding a Pennsylvania license. The Respiratory Extern provides supportive care to patients, including surveillance of monitoring equipment; assists respiratory care practitioners in the provision of care to pediatric patients and their families; and maintains a clean, comfortable, and well-stocked area.
Requirements
- High School Diploma / GED Required
- Current enrollment in an accredited respiratory care program or employed as a respiratory extern with an associates degree, awaiting credentialing from the NBRC. Credentials must be completed within 6 months of graduation. Required
- Ability to handle confidential information appropriately.
- Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing
- Basic Life Support (BLS) - issued through on organization that requires a hands-on instructor lead psychomotor skills verification (ex. American Heart Association or Red Cross). - upon hire - Required
Responsibilities
- Performs equipment set-up and monitoring under direct supervision of RT/Preceptor.
- Assists in the provision of care to patients and families under the supervision of RT/Preceptor.
- Demonstrates an awareness of research.
