About The Position

The Respiratory Therapist Student works with an interdisciplinary team at the Kosair for Kids Complex Care Center at Home of the Innocents, delivering respiratory care to medically complex children and young adults. The student applies classroom knowledge in a real-world setting while promoting wellness, empowerment, and excellence in care, and performs procedures within the student’s scope under medical direction.

Home of the Innocents is a trauma-informed, Louisville-based nonprofit organization serving children and families. Its Kosair for Kids Complex Care Center provides residential and respite care for children and young adults with complex medical needs. The organization emphasizes compassion, wellness, excellence, empowerment, safety, recovery, and strong relationships.

Requirements

• Be a Kentucky-certified Respiratory Therapy Student with limited mandatory certification.
• Have CPR/Basic Life Support certification; training is provided if needed.
• Have a passion for working with diverse populations and a strong desire to learn.
• Demonstrate critical thinking and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Thrive in a team-oriented, trauma-informed environment.
• Be able to move, lift, or assist up to 65 pounds safely.
• Be comfortable standing for prolonged periods and with occasional exposure to healthcare-related risks, such as bloodborne pathogens.

Responsibilities

• Perform respiratory care procedures within the student scope, including oxygen therapy, aerosol treatments, humidification, and bronchopulmonary hygiene.
• Work with Respiratory Therapists, Pulmonologists, and the care team to implement individualized care plans.
• Support resident engagement in enriching activities while helping keep residents safe and supported.

• Maintain compliance with training, employee health standards, and facility policies.
