About The Position

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is seeking a Respiratory Student Extern to join their team in Norfolk, VA! This is a PRN, rotating shift role. Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is the region’s first Magnet Hospital. It is a 525-bed medical center, and home to the area's only Level I Trauma Center, Burn Trauma Unit and Nationally Ranked Heart Program. In addition to a first rate heart program, the hospital is home to Nightingale Regional Air Ambulance and several dedicated facilities and specialized services. Sentara Norfolk General also serves as the primary teaching hospital for undergraduate and graduate education for the adjacent Eastern Virginia Medical School. Respiratory Students are unlicensed staff members who are within three semesters of graduation from an accredited RT program. They are accountable to, and work under the supervision of a professional, licensed Respiratory Therapist to perform delegated aspects of Respiratory Care. This may include both administrative and clinical duties that an unlicensed staff member is able to perform such as some aspects of patient care, cleaning equipment, ordering stock, stocking respiratory supply carts, and performing charge audits/reconciliation.

Requirements

  • Current Student enrolled in clinical Respiratory Care program must be within 3 semesters from graduation from accredited Respiratory Care program and remain in good standing in the program until graduation.
  • BLS within 90 days of hire.
  • H.S. Diploma

Responsibilities

  • Perform delegated aspects of Respiratory Care under the supervision of a licensed Respiratory Therapist.
  • Assist with patient care.
  • Clean equipment.
  • Order stock.
  • Stock respiratory supply carts.
  • Perform charge audits/reconciliation.
