About The Position

The Respiratory Therapist - Sleep Technician is responsible for the comprehensive clinical, technical, and administrative management of the PAP Therapy program at their assigned location. This includes the installation and delivery of respiratory therapy equipment and necessary supplies to patients in their homes, along with continuous assessment of both patients and equipment. Key duties involve scheduling equipment setups, educating patients on the clinical benefits of PAP therapy and the risks of sleep apnea, and maintaining professional communication with physicians, healthcare practitioners, and other referral sources involved in patient care for home respiratory therapy services provided by Sleep Management, LLC d/b/a VieMed. The role also entails meticulous record-keeping, including charting, progress notes, clinical files, and equipment maintenance logs, and ensuring all patient demographic information is current. The individual is expected to communicate effectively, adhere to cost-containment policies, collaborate with office staff for accurate billing and documentation, and work with clinical, managerial, and sales teams to promote home respiratory therapy services. Ensuring the safe and accurate operation of all equipment before installation is critical, and the technician must be available for patient contact and to respond to patient needs. Collaboration with other team members, such as other Respiratory Therapists and Patient Care Coordinators, is also required to ensure task completion.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the overall clinical, technical and administrative functions at the location on record regarding the PAP Therapy program.
  • Responsible for the installation/delivery of respiratory therapist equipment and provision of all needed supplies and products to the patients in the home and ongoing assessment of patients and equipment.
  • Is responsible for contacting patients to schedule setups of equipment and explain the clinical benefits of PAP therapy and dangers of sleep apnea.
  • Is responsible for clinical contact with the physician, referred contacts, health care practitioners, and others involved in the care of the patients referred to Sleep Management, LLC d/b/a VieMed for home respiratory therapy services.
  • Is responsible for the maintenance of records, charting, progress notes, clinical files, equipment records, preventative maintenance records, and other necessary documentation.
  • Is responsible to ensure all pertinent demographic information is updated regularly and with any change in personal or professional status.
  • Exhibits effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Adheres to cost-containment policies and procedures.
  • Works with the office staff to ensure prompt and accurate billing and documentation of services, including providing adequate information to satisfy third-party payor guidelines for coverage.
  • Works with all clinical, managerial, and sales staff to promote and market home respiratory therapist services to all referral sources.
  • Ensures proper, accurate, and safe operation of all equipment prior to installation.
  • Is required to provide availability for patient contact and response to patient needs.
  • Will work with team members (other RTs, PCC’s and various departments) to ensure tasks are completed.
  • Other duties/projects as assigned.
