About The Position

The Respiratory Therapist works in accordance with evidenced based policies and procedures of the Medical Center with all patient populations. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide respiratory therapy to patients as ordered by the prescribing physician that is appropriate to all the ages of the patients served. In accordance with established policies and procedures, administers medical gases, medications, airway clearance, mechanical ventilation, other respiratory modalities, monitor levels of supplies and equipment for department and patient care areas. Applies theoretical knowledge to care of neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients with other members of the healthcare team by demonstrating competence in respiratory skills, problem solving, and critical thinking that is appropriate to the ages of the patients served.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree
  • Successful completion of a respiratory therapy program from an accredited school
  • Basic electronic medical record documentation skills
  • BLS required
  • NRP after 6 months of hire
  • Credentialed Registered Respiratory Therapist by the National Board of Respiratory Care
  • Current Respiratory Care Practitioner license
  • Current National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) credentials if credentialed after July 1, 2002
  • New graduate therapists must successfully pass both the NBRC TMC (The Multiple Choice) and CSE (Clinical Simulation Exam) exams
  • Proof of application for appropriate state licensure before orientation to the department
  • Licensure must be obtained within six months of hire for new graduates per the Licensure Practice Act
  • Obtain NRP and PALS certifications within six months of hire at SAMC Rockford

Responsibilities
