Requirements

  • High School (or GED equivalent) diploma
  • Associate Degree in Respiratory Therapy
  • Licensed by the Texas Medical Board as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP)
  • Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Current ACLS, PALS, and NRP certification
  • RRT- Registered Respiratory Therapist verified through NBRC.

Responsibilities

  • Performing all respiratory care procedures in the general and critical care settings.
  • Providing shift-by-shift clinical leadership for the advancement of professional respiratory practice to staff in a variety of clinical settings, including but not limited to general care, and critical and pediatric care settings.
  • Assisting with ongoing development and evaluation of orientation needs, in-service education, and continuing education.
  • Applying innovative teaching strategies and methodologies to provide cost-effective and well-executed clinical education utilizing a wide variety of methodologies and provides support to clinical learning through mentor-ship, clinical rounds, and practice evaluation.
  • Functioning as a “Charge Therapist” with responsibility for ensuring an adequate number of respiratory therapy staff to cover patient care areas and needs.
  • Assigning respiratory therapy staff to work areas and/or work assignments, modifying work assignments, assisting with meal coverage, fielding calls for unexpected absences, and coordinating adequate staffing levels for the next shift.
