About The Position

Shriners Children’s is seeking a PRN Respiratory Therapist to join their Portland team. This role involves providing family-centered, age-appropriate clinical cardio-pulmonary care. The therapist will utilize assessment findings to identify patient and family needs in collaboration with the healthcare team, communicating findings verbally and in writing. Responsibilities include ensuring the safe operation of life support equipment, seeking professional development, and potentially taking on leadership roles or acting as a clinical resource to other departments. The role may also involve precepting staff after demonstrating proficiency and participating in hospital/departmental committees, special projects, and research.

Requirements

  • Associate Respiratory Therapy
  • RT License in state of practice
  • National Registration by National Board for Respiratory Therapy
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

Nice To Haves

  • 2 Years in ICU setting, Pediatric/Adult RT intensive care

Responsibilities

  • Provide primary respiratory care to patients from admission through discharge, and charts appropriately.
  • Serve as a resource and provide education to students, interns, residents, nurses, and new employees as needed.
  • Assure safe, cost-effective operation and function of pertinent equipment and utilize appropriate infection control techniques in all areas.
  • Seek personal, professional development and accountability.
  • Demonstrate the ability to professionally interact and communicate appropriately with staff, patients, families, and visitors.
  • Understand overall hospital/departmental philosophy, policies and procedures and applies it to daily patient staff/interaction.
  • Take a leadership role as assigned.
  • Act as a clinical resource to other departments.
  • May precept staff after displaying proficiency.
  • Participate in hospital / departmental committees, special projects and research.
