Under general supervision, administer complex respiratory therapy procedures in the evaluation and treatment of individuals with cardiopulmonary functions threatened or impaired by developmental defects, the aging process, physical injury, or disease by administering respiratory care techniques. This role performs a variety of respiratory care treatments to a specific patient population (adult, pediatric, or neonatal), explains treatments to patients and/or families, observes and monitors patient status, and collaborates with physicians on therapeutic treatment plans. The position involves participating in CPR procedures, administering therapeutic and diagnostic gases, assisting with artificial airways, and performing age-specific respiratory techniques. In Critical Care areas, the role administers and adjusts mechanical ventilation and CPAP under supervision, evaluates treatment effectiveness by interpreting chest x-rays and blood gas results, and ensures the proper operation, calibration, and maintenance of respiratory equipment. The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for documenting patient care activities, collecting data, evaluating and interpreting results, and reporting any issues requiring immediate attention. Additionally, the role provides clinical supervision and guidance to respiratory care interns and students.
