About The Position

This is a Relief Full-Time position available until February 2027, or until return of incumbent. Royal Columbian Hospital is conveniently located adjacent to the Sapperton SkyTrain station on the Expo Line1. This makes it easily accessible by public transit for both patients and staff. The Royal Columbian Hospital Redevelopment Project (RCHRP) is a multi-year, multi-phase project to increase the hospital's capacity, beds and services. RCH first opened in 1862, is a vital referral centre and regional centre of excellence for trauma, critical care, cardiac care, maternity, neonatal intensive care and neurosurgery. When the full redevelopment is complete, the people of British Columbia will have increased access to cardiac, trauma, mental health, maternity and NICU services and beds. New Westminster is known for its stunning waterfront views along the Fraser River, located on the north side of the Fraser River bordering several municipalities in each direction (Burnaby, Coquitlam, Surrey, and Delta), making it the centre of the Greater Vancouver region. Performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures related to respiratory therapy: assists with in-service education and provides input into program development.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
• Successful completion of the Canadian Board of Respiratory Care credentialing exam.
• Eligible for membership with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT).
• Eligible for membership with the British Columbia Society of Respiratory Therapists (BCSRT).
• Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Level C.
• Possession of and maintained Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to deal with others effectively.
• Ability to organize and prioritize work.
• Ability to operate related equipment.
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

Responsibilities

• Performs diagnostic and therapeutic assessments, interventions and follow-ups as related to respiratory therapy such as assisting with cardiopulmonary resuscitation and providing support initiating/maintaining mechanical ventilation support of adults, children and infants, providing airway management, patient evaluation, and daily care of patients as prescribed.
• Maintains documentation by ensuring reports, records and workload statistics are complete and accurate according to established departmental standards.
• Participates in the interdisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient care goals, therapeutic/diagnostic strategies and program related issues.
• Monitors and performs required maintenance, cleaning, calibration, evaluation and quality control of respiratory and related equipment: reports supply needs as required; maintains relevant logs/reports.
• Participates in quality improvement activities such as the development, implementation and evaluation of written procedures and standards, development of assessment forms and patient materials, and program descriptions as required.
• Provides in-service education as required.
• Participates in meetings and departmental committees and contributes to problem identification and resolution.
• Participates in Respiratory Therapy student education and various in-services for staff and the community as required.
• Performs other related duties as required.
