CHEO is a global leader in pediatric health, transforming from a 20th-century acute care hospital into a 21st-century integrated child and youth health system. Ranked in the top 1% of Canadian hospitals for clinical infrastructure digitization, CHEO excels in clinical care, research, and education. The Research Institute is dedicated to world-class research across various children's health concerns. CHEO has been recognized as Canada's best healthcare employer by Forbes and a top employer in the National Capital Region for multiple consecutive years. This position is part of the Critical Care Transport Team, which is provincially mandated to transport critically ill neonates and pediatric patients to centers with a higher level of care. The transport environment is unpredictable, requiring fellows to be perpetually ready with a broadened skill set, proper equipment, and mental preparedness. Fellows will train to use clinical judgment under the guidance of an overseeing clinician, with increasing autonomy as the fellowship progresses, to carry out highly specialized procedures in emergency, life-or-death situations, often in confined spaces with only a partner. They will manage patient care utilizing complex equipment and progress towards functioning as a Critical Care Transport Team Respiratory Clinician (CCTT RC) upon successful completion of the fellowship program, including written assessments and Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCE).
