About The Position

The Respiratory Therapist Extern works under the direction of Respiratory Therapists (RT). The extern is responsible for maintaining an appropriate level of equipment and supplies in the various work areas and assisting Respiratory Therapists with various procedures and tasks. Patients depend on our team for the best in evidence-based care and innovative therapies, such as inhaled nitric oxide, high-frequency oscillation, and invasive and non-invasive ventilator support modalities. Opportunities exist for motivated Registered Respiratory Therapists (and Certified Respiratory Therapy Technicians) with the skills to provide a high level of quality service in a variety of settings including the ED, Trauma and Critical Care.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required)
  • BLS Cert American Heart_non ecard (BLS AHA) - American Heart Association (AMERICAN HEART)
  • Certified Respiratory Therapist (TT LICENSE) - State of Florida (FL)
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RT LICENSE) - State of Florida (FL)
  • Actively enrolled in an Associate of Science Respiratory program and completion of, at least, the first year of the program.
  • No experience required.
  • Respiratory License required within 120 days post-graduation.

Responsibilities

  • Educates the patient and family about the patient's illness and provides information about community support groups and other resources.
  • Responds to codes and calls for emergent assistance.
  • Assesses patient condition and delivers appropriate treatment.
  • Evaluates respiratory care policies and procedures based on patient outcomes, current research, and best practices.
  • Delivers and assesses response to ordered therapy per plan of care.
  • Monitors, documents, and communicates patient condition.
