About The Position

The final candidate will be hired into the correct title and pay per qualifications. This is a full-time day shift position with three 12-hour shifts from 6:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., including every other weekend and holiday rotation. The role is part of the AFSCME union. We are excited to offer sign-on bonuses for qualified Respiratory Therapists who join our team: $15,000 for therapists with 0-1 year of experience with a 2-year full-time commitment, and $20,000 for therapists with 1+ years of experience with a 2-year full-time commitment. Additionally, there is a limited-time incentive to earn an additional $10,000 upon completion of your third year of employment.

Requirements

  • Must provide the Hospital with a copy of his/her current temporary practice permit or current certificate to practice in the Commonwealth as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (for CRT).
  • Must be a graduate of an AMA accredited school for respiratory therapy (for CRT).
  • Must have successfully completed the NBRC Certification Exam (for CRT).
  • CPR required based on AHA standards (didactic and skills demonstration) within 30 days of hire.
  • Must complete Neonatal Resuscitation Program within one year of Hire Date or transfer.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
  • Certified Respiratory Therapy Technician (CRTT) (for CRT).
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
  • Osteopathic Respiratory Care OR Respiratory Care Practitioners (RCP).
  • Act 33 with renewal.
  • Act 34 with renewal.
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal.
  • CPR required based on AHA standards (didactic and skills demonstration) within 30 days of hire (for RRT).
  • Must complete Neonatal Resuscitation Program within one year of Hire Date (for RRT).

Responsibilities

  • Administers medical gases utilizing equipment such as cannula, tent, croupette, mask, aerosol mask, HFNC, and trach collar.
  • Administers IPPV, IPPB, aerosol, nebulizer, and incentive spirometry treatments, including drugs for all except incentive spirometry.
  • Administers aerosols for sputum induction.
  • Initiates and maintains mechanical pulmonary ventilation equipment in the ED, Nursery, and ICU settings.
  • Performs arterial puncture using radial and brachial arteries (femoral artery with doctor's order).
  • Performs capillary punctures on newborn infants and small children using heel or finger sticks.
  • Operates, maintains, calibrates, and performs quality checks on blood gas analyzers.
  • Administers bedside pulmonary function tests.
  • Maintains an adequate level of laboratory supplies for the Blood Gas laboratory.
  • Prepares and maintains required reports and patient records.
  • Stays up to date with current trends and developments in respiratory care.
  • Maintains working knowledge of Department procedure manuals.
  • Participates in inservice programs to improve respiratory practice.
  • Complies with established occupational exposure policies.
  • Performs work rotating shifts as needed.
  • Assists with planning, coordination, and supervision of technical staff activities during the shift.
  • Consults with Certified Respiratory Therapists (CRT) and Registered Respiratory Therapists (RRT) regarding equipment use and patient management.
  • Assists in the evaluation of new equipment for the Department.
  • Takes an active role in staff inservice education and orientation of new employees.
  • Assists in the quality assurance program within the Department.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and ability to adapt clinical treatment and instructional care to all life stages and health conditions.
  • Efficiently employs available equipment and supplies, giving due care to their use and maintenance.
  • Available for staff adjustments to ensure sufficient qualified staff to meet patient needs and respond to unusual occurrences or increased patient acuity.
  • Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
