About The Position

Hart Medical Equipment is seeking a patient-focused Respiratory Therapist Assistant to provide and coordinate respiratory care services under the direction of a Licensed Respiratory Therapist. This role involves observing, assessing, and monitoring patient responses to respiratory services, developing and implementing treatment plans, and managing PAP therapy. The assistant will also provide non-clinical support for oxygen, suction, and basic tracheostomy setups. Responsibilities include charting patient care, coordinating PAP setups and mask refits, performing basic respiratory procedures (CPAP, BiPAP, basic trach without oxygen), and providing customer education on equipment use and infection control. The role also involves assisting with equipment maintenance, coordinating maintenance records, obtaining necessary prescriptions and forms for billing, and providing customer service support. Availability for on-call assignments, including nights, weekends, and holidays, is required, as is the use of a personal vehicle for home visits.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • One year of durable medical equipment, hospital, or other relevant experience or a combination of education and experience.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and insurance with a good driving record.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Customer service orientation.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Good data entry skills.
  • Proficiency with computers, with strong typing skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must possess a personal vehicle in good working condition.

Responsibilities

  • Provide and coordinate respiratory care services under the direction of a Licensed Respiratory Therapist.
  • Observe, assess, and monitor patient response to respiratory services.
  • Develop, implement, and modify respiratory treatment plans.
  • Operate and manage PAP therapy equipment.
  • Provide non-clinical support for oxygen, suction, and basic tracheostomy setup.
  • Read and interpret insurance documents, medical records, and written orders.
  • Chart in detail, both written and in applicable database, ongoing patient care.
  • Coordinate and perform PAP set-ups, mask refits, and pressure changes.
  • Assist with patient-owned equipment repair processing.
  • Perform basic respiratory procedures including CPAP, BiPAP, and basic trach with no oxygen.
  • Provide appropriate deliveries, set-up, and instruction to respiratory customers.
  • Evaluate, assess, and meet customer needs, goals, and requirements for service/therapy.
  • Assist Medical Equipment Technicians with oxygen concentrator maintenance service.
  • Coordinate and perform quality assurance and maintenance services on respiratory therapy items.
  • Deliver and instruct customers and/or caregivers on the proper and safe use of oxygen systems and respiratory items.
  • Instruct customers and/or caregivers on infection control procedures.
  • Coordinate and/or complete equipment maintenance management records.
  • Coordinate and/or assist with obtaining prescriptions and Certificate of Medical Necessity forms for billing.
  • Conduct or arrange in-service for staff relating to respiratory equipment services.
  • Gather customer or insurance information and fill out appropriate paperwork.
  • Perform service calls and assist with other DME deliveries when needed.
  • Provide customer service support to address patient calls, questions, or orders.
  • Triage trouble calls or equipment failures.
  • Be available for 24-hour on-call assignments, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
