About The Position

The Respiratory Therapist Assistant performs various technical respiratory therapy treatments under general supervision. This contributes to quality patient care. Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Respiratory Care program.
  • Basic knowledge of Respiratory Care modalities, therapies, equipment, and medications.
  • Must be able to read, write and follow flow chart protocols as appropriate.
  • Must be able to communicate thoughts clearly; both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to follow established safety, infection control, and isolation procedures at all times.
  • Basic computer skills, including but not limited to: data entry, information security, electronic medical documentation, hand-held scanning, and email.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Less than 1 year of experience.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Responsibilities

  • Performs various respiratory therapy treatments like PEP, IS, and O2 checks. Provides Incentive Spirometer treatments and oxygen therapy following established procedures.
  • Under general supervision, instructs patients in the use of various treatments in a thorough and professional manner.
  • Updates patient records with all therapies provided, and reports all unusual signs, symptoms, or side effects immediately.
  • Documents all treatments and therapies given, any supplies used and accurately files all corresponding charges.
  • Performs regular cleaning and sterilization of equipment in accordance with established procedures.
  • Maintains the proper functioning of oxygen and emergency equipment through daily checks. Notifies staff to order necessary supplies as needed.
