About The Position

The Respiratory Therapy Student Technician Level 2 provides basic fundamentals of respiratory care to patients according to predefined guidelines, a plan of care established by a Respiratory Therapist, and under the direct supervision of the Respiratory Therapy staff. The procedures authorized to be performed are to be performed exclusively outside a critical care area. This role involves setting up and monitoring low-flow oxygen, administering non-exotic aerosol therapy, performing hyperinflation and airway clearance therapy, and handling equipment cleaning, stocking, and transporting. Once certified in Basic Life Support (BLS), students may assist in cardiorespiratory arrests. This position is not necessarily an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, skills, efforts, requirements, or working conditions. Management reserves the right to revise the job or require additional tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be a Second-year Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) student or an unlicensed new graduate of an accredited, state approved, Respiratory Therapy program.
  • Must complete and maintain BCLS certification upon hire and/or transfer.
  • No prior experience required.
  • Must demonstrate keen mental faculties/assessment and decision making abilities.
  • Must demonstrate superior communication/speaking/enunciation skills to receive and give information in person and by telephone.
  • Must demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must possess emotional stability conducive to dealing with high stress levels.
  • Must demonstrate ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in complex situations is required.
  • Must have the ability to maintain collaborative and respectable working relationships throughout SRHS and other organizations.
  • Must possess superior customer service skills and professional etiquette.
  • Must possess proficient knowledge and ability to use a computer (must be keyboard proficient) and other office technology (i.e., telephone, fax, etc.), MS Outlook and Word.
  • Must be able to demonstrate appropriate clinical judgment and apply appropriate professional skills to a patient population of all ages.

Responsibilities

  • Set-up and monitoring of low-flow oxygen (e.g., less than or equal to 6 LPM)
  • Non-exotic aerosol therapy (bronchodilators, anticholinergics, etc.)
  • Hyperinflation and airway clearance therapy
  • Equipment cleaning, stocking, transporting, etc.
  • Assist in cardiorespiratory arrests once certified in Basic Life Support
