About The Position

UWMC Northwest is currently recruiting for a RESPIRATORY CARE SPECIALIST to join our Respiratory Care Team! This is a regular, full-time position working 40 hours per week on the First Shift.

Requirements

  • Current Washington State Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license in good standing.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years recent critical care Respiratory Care Practitioner experience required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years demonstrated leadership experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Care or related field preferred.
  • Neonatal experience preferred.
  • Pediatric experience preferred.
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide education and training to Respiratory Care Practitioners, nurses, physicians, residents, and other staff regarding new equipment, clinical guidelines, standards, and evidence-based practices.
  • Coordinate and provide orientation, competency validation, and preceptorship for newly hired permanent and temporary staff.
  • Facilitate advanced learning opportunities, including conferences, seminars, continuing education, and time away from clinical duties for professional development.
  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge and clinical expertise in all theories and practices of respiratory care.
  • Provide advanced respiratory care services and support clinical staff in delivering safe and therapeutic patient care.
  • Perform patient assessments to determine acuity and prioritize care needs appropriately.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate Respiratory Care Practitioner-driven protocols and patient care guidelines based on current scientific evidence.
  • Participate in and lead quality improvement initiatives, research projects, and departmental performance improvement activities.
  • Investigate and recommend methods to improve operational performance, quality outcomes, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Establish professional rapport and maintain collaborative relationships with physicians, nurses, therapists, patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Communicate effectively in both individual and group settings.
