This role is responsible for delivering assessment, therapeutic intervention, and education for patients with cardiopulmonary disorders or associated complications. The specialist will assess individuals to prevent, detect, monitor, and manage disease and complications, and provide therapeutic interventions to impact cardiopulmonary health and overall health status. Education will be provided to promote preventative care, self-management, enhanced cardiopulmonary health, and quality of life. The role involves performing regular assessments of patients and equipment, offering treatment suggestions, and working with patients in various environments (home, hospital, clinic). Collaboration with a team of physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals is essential, including assisting with patient home respiratory therapy. On-call shifts may be required on a rotating basis. A thorough understanding of respiratory care procedures, indications, contraindications, hazards, and equipment is necessary. Proficiency in using computers for patient documentation and data gathering is also required, along with completing required orientations, competency validations, and in-services.
