About The Position

The Respiratory Care Program Faculty / Clinical Coordinator is responsible for leading lecture classes and hands-on positioning labs and administering the student’s clinical experience with the program’s clinical sites. This position assists in the learning process of students by understanding how students develop and learn, how they are motivated and the effects of peer interactions on learning; by knowing his/her discipline and how to help students know the discipline; by learning what is new in the discipline, and what is newly available through technology and changing pedagogical methods; by thinking of teaching as helping others; by being a student of society and the worlds in which students live. This is a 12-month teaching faculty position with a 40 Instructor Credit Hour (ICH) workload that includes both teaching and clinical coordination responsibilities. For accreditation purposes, this position fulfills the role of Director of Clinical Education, as defined by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC). This position is based in Bethlehem, PA.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution
• current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential and Pennsylvania Respiratory Care license
• minimum of four years of experience as a RRT, including at least two years in clinical respiratory care
• minimum of two years of teaching experience in a CoARC-accredited respiratory care program or experience as a clinical instructor/preceptor
• completion of the CoARC Key Personnel Training Program
• knowledge of respiratory care education, pedagogy, curriculum development, assessment, and accreditation
• strong organizational, communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
• ability to collaborate with administrators, faculty, students, preceptors, clinical affiliates, and external stakeholders
• ability to travel to clinical education sites
• computer literacy, including the use of instructional technology
• ability to maintain an advisory relationship with students

Responsibilities

• Planning the instructional offerings: maintain curriculum currently and participate in course level and program level academic assessment; acquaint all students with course requirements and provide each student with periodic evaluations of his/her progress; participate in all areas of school and departmental responsibilities; select textbooks and other instructional materials in compliance with developed college policies; comply with all provisions as noted in the Contract with Local #3579 of the American Federation of Teachers.
• Facilitating the instructional process: recommend the purchase of library books and other instructional resources necessary for the effective implementation of the instructional program; assist in the recruitment of full-time faculty members as provided in the Policies and Procedures Manual; carry on an effective student advising program and implement the referral program to ensure that students who require counseling are directed to the appropriate staff member.
• Participating in all regularly scheduled meetings of the school/department, professional staff and program meetings (clinical instructor and advisory board).
• Preparing preliminary budget materials for submission to the appropriate Dean.
• Implementing special responsibilities: prepare a list annually of special assignments that reflect institutional and individual goals and ambitions appropriate to the position and the administrative team.
• Direct and administer the clinical education component of the Respiratory Care Program in accordance with CoARC accreditation standards.
• Coordinate student clinical placements and schedules in collaboration with the Program Director and clinical affiliates to ensure integration of didactic, laboratory, and clinical education.
• Maintain frequent, regular, and consistent communication with students, faculty, preceptors, and clinical affiliates through routine site visits and other appropriate methods.
• Collaborate with the Program Director to develop and maintain clinical partnerships and affiliation agreements; recruit, orient, mentor, and support preceptors; evaluate student clinical performance; and maintain required records and documentation.
• Provide leadership for the continuous assessment and improvement of the clinical education program and support accreditation activities to ensure compliance with CoARC standards.
• Collaborate with the Program Director and College personnel to support student recruitment, outreach, and retention efforts.
• Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Program Director.
