About The Position

Dignity Health - Northridge Hospital Medical Center, founded in 1955, is a 394-bed, acute care, nonprofit hospital located. Serving over 80,000 patients annually, the hospital offers a full complement of services including a Level II Trauma Center, heart care, cancer care and women’s health. It is the only pediatric trauma center in the San Fernando Valley. As our Respiratory Therapist, you will provide essential direct patient care, assessing, treating, and managing patients with respiratory disorders. Your role is vital for improving patient outcomes. Every day you will assess respiratory status, implement treatment plans (oxygen, ventilation, airway management), and educate patients/families. You'll document interventions and collaborate with physicians and medical staff. To be successful, you will demonstrate strong clinical skills, critical thinking, and proficiency with equipment. Excellent communication for patient interaction and interdisciplinary collaboration, plus a commitment to safety and continuous development, are essential. This position is represented by SEIU-UHW and is covered by the terms and conditions of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a two (2) year AMA accredited Respiratory Therapy Program
  • A minimum 1 year primary work experience as a Respiratory Therapist or have successfully completed a student rotation at NHMC
  • CA Respiratory Care Practitioner required.
  • AHA Basic Life Support (AHA BLS) required.
  • AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support required
  • Fire Safety, within 90 Days of start date required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide essential direct patient care, assessing, treating, and managing patients with respiratory disorders.
  • Assess respiratory status, implement treatment plans (oxygen, ventilation, airway management), and educate patients/families.
  • Document interventions and collaborate with physicians and medical staff.
  • Apply clinical knowledge and expertise for coordinating patient care by regularly planning and evaluating the respiratory care of patients.
  • Demonstrate effective respiratory care judgment and a working knowledge of the respiratory process.
  • Guide interdisciplinary team members by supervising respiratory interventions and assisting with related tasks.
  • Provide leadership by establishing priorities and coordinating respiratory care.
  • Document and communicate all observed symptoms, reactions, treatments, and changes in the patient's condition to the appropriate member of the interdisciplinary health care team.
  • Coordinate plan of care with other members of the interdisciplinary health care team to achieve desired goals and outcomes.
