About The Position

Under the direction of the Director of Respiratory Services and in consultation with the Medical Director, the Respiratory Care Practitioner is responsible for patient care, comfort and completion of required procedures. Is responsible for the assessment, treatment or care appropriate to the ages of the patients served. Must be able to work normal/scheduled working hours to include Holidays, call-backs, weeknights, weekends, and on-call. Agrees to participate, as directed, in emergencies and community disasters during scheduled and unscheduled hours. As a designated disaster service worker you are required to assist in times of need pursuant to the California Emergency Services Act. (Gov’t. Code §§ 3100, 3102) Needs to recognize that they have an affirmative duty and responsibility for reporting perceived misconduct, including actual or potential violations of laws, regulations, policies, procedures, or this organization’s standards/code of conduct. The employee shall work well under pressure, meet multiple and sometimes competing deadlines; and the incumbent shall at all times demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence if required.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages if required.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Current licensure as an RCP in the state of California.
  • Current BLS certification or obtain within orientation process, prior to hands-on patient care.
  • ACLS, PALS, and NRP certification or obtain within six (6) months of assignment to department.

Responsibilities

  • Performs Respiratory Care procedures in response to patient needs, physician direction/orders, and within the limits of established facility policies/procedures.
  • Assesses the Respiratory status of assigned patients through physical exam, chart review and response to ordered therapies, and recommendations, when appropriate, to ensure an optimal level of response to the intervention.
  • Corrects and adjusts Respiratory Care equipment, communicates operational theory to other health care professionals, and recommends technology most appropriate to maximize patient comfort and safety, and provides effective and appropriate use of technology.
  • Provides educational support for patients/families during delivery of Respiratory Care Services, discharge planning, and outpatient procedures as well as other health care team members who are involved with patient care including detailed documentation of education.
  • Delivers direct patient care appropriate to the ages of the patients served. The age groups of the patients served are Neo-Nate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric.
  • Documentation reflects compliance with established Hospital policies and procedures.
  • Is actively involved in all departmental Performance Improvement and Quality Assurances processes.
