The Respiratory Care Practitioner performs pulmonary-function diagnostic tests for use by the physician in diagnosing and treatment of pulmonary disorders. This includes conferring with the patient in the treatment room to explain the procedure and methods of breathing during the test. The Respiratory Care Practitioner is responsible to document test information in the patient’s medical record and oversees inventory of supplies needed. In addition, the RCP is also responsible for calibration and maintaining diagnostic equipment and recognize when equipment malfunctions. Performs pulmonary-function, lung capacity, diffusion capacity, and blood and oxygen tests for use by physician in diagnosing and treatment of pulmonary disorders.
