About The Position

The Respiratory Care Assistant works under the supervision of a Registered Respiratory Therapist to provide basic, routine respiratory-care activities in general care areas. The role includes assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation within hospital and department guidelines, and requires care to be safe, effective, and appropriate to patients’ developmental and age needs while meeting quality and regulatory standards. The assistant also cleans, processes, and maintains equipment. This PRN position is intended for students currently enrolled in a respiratory school program and offers hands-on experience. Work is arranged around the student’s school curriculum.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a respiratory school program.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Basic Cardiovascular Life Support certification.

Nice To Haves

• Missouri Respiratory Educational Permit.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic routine diagnostic and therapeutic respiratory procedures in general care areas in accordance with established standards, procedures, guidelines, and policies.
• Recognize abnormal findings or changes in patient status and seek assistance from other healthcare team members.
• Communicate and collaborate with the healthcare team, including through documentation and handoffs.
• Take accountability, seek opportunities for continuous learning and feedback, prioritize work, and use effective time management.
• Process equipment according to manufacturer and industry standards.
• Clean and perform general maintenance of equipment.
