About The Position

The Respiratory Care Assistant cleans and disinfects patient equipment, sterilizes reusable equipment, and assembles and performs basic calibrations on ventilators and other critical respiratory equipment. The role maintains respiratory supply stocks and equipment inventories, coordinates preventive maintenance, orders supplies and rental equipment, and helps ensure equipment is ready for use and returned promptly to control costs. The Assistant supervises and trains Respiratory Therapy Aids and audits charges and charting for accuracy. The role follows applicable laws, hospital and departmental policies, and safety, quality assurance, and infection control standards, using equipment, supplies, facilities, and other resources prudently to support high-quality respiratory services.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Current student in an accredited respiratory program.

Responsibilities

Sterilize reusable equipment and maintain inventory in decontamination and stock rooms.
Maintain respiratory supply stocks throughout the facility by ordering essential supplies and establishing and maintaining PAR levels.
Maintain the department’s capital equipment inventory and coordinate preventive maintenance for equipment.
Perform performance checks and calibrations on ventilators and other critical equipment before returning them to service.
Order critical equipment for rental and ensure its prompt return to minimize facility expense.
Supervise and train Respiratory Therapy Aids.
Audit charges and charting for accuracy.
Comply with applicable federal and state laws and the OLOLRMC Standards of Conduct.
Follow departmental and hospital policies and procedures, including safety, quality assurance, infection control, and patient care standards.
Use equipment, supplies, facilities, and other resources prudently and efficiently.
Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
