About The Position

The Respiratory Care Assistant (RCA) performs respiratory duties as outlined by the North Carolina Respiratory Care Board Declaratory Ruling for Respiratory Care Assistants. This role involves performing respiratory care treatments, administering oxygen, suctioning patients, and obtaining and running ABG samples. The RCA must follow departmental safety guidelines, complete all regulatory requirements, and complete annual proficiency evaluations of respiratory care equipment and procedures.

Requirements

  • Registered with the North Carolina Respiratory Care Board (NCRCB) as an RCA required.
  • Basic Life Support for healthcare providers thru the American Heart Association required.
  • Advanced certification per facility/department.
  • A minimum of a High School diploma or GED required.
  • Currently enrolled and in good standing in an accredited Respiratory Care educational program approved by the Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) and successful completion of 1 year of such program required.
  • Evidence of completed clinical competency evaluations through their Respiratory Program (skills lab and didactics).
  • Excellent organization, prioritization, and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and establish working relationships.
  • Effective problem solving, decision making, and delegation skills.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and demonstrates the skills and competency appropriate to the ages, culture, developmental stages, and special needs of the patient population served.
  • Will limit access to protected health information (PHI) to the information reasonably necessary to do the job.
  • Will share information only on a need-to-know basis for work purposes.
  • Requires repetitive physical activity.
  • Able to walk and stand to perform duties.
  • Ability to lift 20-50 pounds.
  • Ability to move patients of all age groups.
  • Adequate hearing and eyesight are necessary.

  • Performs respiratory care treatments, oxygen administration, suctions patients and obtains and runs ABG samples.
  • Follows departmental safety guidelines.
  • Completes all regulatory requirements.
  • Completes annual proficiency evaluation of respiratory care equipment and procedures.
