About The Position

Royal Columbian Hospital is seeking a Respiratory Aide to join their team. This role is crucial for the Royal Columbian Hospital Redevelopment Project (RCHRP), a multi-year initiative aimed at expanding the hospital's capacity, beds, and services. Royal Columbian Hospital, established in 1862, serves as a vital referral center and regional center of excellence for trauma, critical care, cardiac care, maternity, neonatal intensive care, and neurosurgery. Upon completion of the redevelopment, residents of British Columbia will have enhanced access to cardiac, trauma, mental health, maternity, and NICU services and beds. The hospital is conveniently located next to the Sapperton SkyTrain station, ensuring easy public transit access for patients and staff.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a recognized program in Sterile Supply processing, plus one year's recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Ability to communicate and effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Retrieves and cleans designated respiratory equipment from all user areas utilizing cold decontamination methods.
  • Assembles, packages and delivers respiratory equipment and supplies to all patient care areas.
  • Checks portable oxygen tank levels daily and replaces tanks as required.
  • Assembles all ventilator circuits, auxiliary breathing circuits and therapy equipment.
  • Reports and/or removes from use any malfunctioning equipment or supplies; replaces worn parts such as Y connectors and discoloured tubing.
  • Takes phone messages concerning patient treatments and lab results for delivery to staff members concerned.
  • Carries out routine cleaning of work and storage area.
  • Maintains and orders inventory of respiratory supplies as required.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
