About The Position

Responsible for supporting the operations and equipment of the Respiratory Therapy Department. Delivers and removes respiratory care equipment to ensure good working condition and sufficient supply. Responsible for the ventilator and non-invasive ventilator fleet which encompasses the availability, cleaning, set up, operational verification and distribution. Acts to support respiratory care in accordance with departmental policies and procedures under the supervision and direction of a Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner.

Requirements

  • Must be actively enrolled in or have completed an accredited CoARC approved Respiratory Therapy program and hold a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Maintain current BLS certification.
  • Have or obtain ACLS & PALS certification within 90 days of hire date.

Responsibilities

  • Manages and distributes equipment to ensure adequate supply and maintain par level.
  • Checks all pertinent areas for respiratory care equipment and returns equipment to appropriate area.
  • Gathers and distributes equipment on a daily basis to all areas to ensure an adequate supply for patient care.
  • Gathers dirty equipment on a daily basis and ensures delivery to central sterile for processing.
  • Collects clean equipment from central sterile supply and delivers to proper location.
  • Inventories storage areas to maintain an adequate supply level, reporting supply needs to appropriate individuals in a timely manner.
  • Receives and verifies amount of supplies delivered, places supplies in correct location and notifies appropriate individuals of delivery discrepancies.
  • Ensures supplies are stored and maintained according to regulatory standards.
  • Responds to equipment requests to ensure an efficient and orderly process and assists charge therapist, supervisor and manager as needed.
  • Ensures ventilators are set up and verified correctly then are placed in designated areas.
  • Responds to therapists’ requests for specific equipment in a timely manner.
  • Cleans and sets up equipment, ventilators, and non-invasive devices; maintains equipment and the respiratory care work areas to ensure efficient operations.
  • Completes all related paperwork when appropriate.
  • Maintains the environment of care in department work areas on a daily basis (tidies department and organizes storage areas).
  • Removes ventilator from patients’ room and cleans according to infection control standards.
  • Sets up clean ventilators, performs established safety check and labels ventilator, notifying clinical coordinator, supervisor or manager of any problems.
  • Periodically cleans other respiratory care equipment as assigned.
  • Removes from service any broken equipment or ventilators requiring preventive maintenance, fills appropriate paperwork and notifies appropriate individual(s).
  • Maintains ventilator and equipment availability and notifies clinical coordinator/supervisor/manager of ventilator and or equipment needs.
  • Delivers and picks up equipment from Central Sterile as needed.
  • Ensures each work area has appropriate number and type of ventilators set up.
  • Provides and supports respiratory care services in accordance to departmental practice guideline(s) and at the direction/supervision of a licensed respiratory care practitioner.
  • Provide and support clinical and patient care under the scope of respiratory care in accordance and verification of departmental competency validation based on the Respiratory Therapy Clinical Coordinators.
  • Demonstrate competency and clinical acumen of respiratory care theories, concepts, and best practice in accordance to departmental policies, protocols, and standard operating procedures as established by the organization.
  • Demonstrate and maintain current/active required credentials such as BLS, ACLS and PALS.
  • Provides and supports clinical operations under the direction and supervision of a Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner.
  • Demonstrates professional work behavior as outlined by the Service Standards and Success factors established by the Stamford Hospital.
  • Complies with departmental organizational policies and procedures and adheres to external agency requirements.
  • Attends Respiratory & Pulmonary Services department meetings and is responsible for knowing the contents discussed.
  • Maintains their clinical expertise by attending continuing education classes, respiratory seminars, meetings, and self-improvement programs as appropriate and required.
