About The Position

Under the supervision of the Respiratory Supervisor, the Respiratory Therapist is responsible for providing cardiopulmonary care services in accordance with specific physician’s orders, Department policies and procedures. The role involves performing various respiratory therapy treatments, setting up and monitoring mechanical ventilators, airway management, tracheal suctioning, and performing arterial punctures for blood gas analysis. The therapist must also be knowledgeable about oxygen delivery methods, assess patient pain, and manage equipment safely. Patient education and documentation are key aspects of this position, ensuring all care is provided in a safe environment that optimizes patient safety and minimizes medical errors. The role also includes performing EKGs and understanding age-specific differences in treatment modalities and dosages.

Requirements

  • Current GA Respiratory Therapist Licensure.
  • Graduate of an AMA-approved School of Respiratory Therapy with proof of diploma.
  • BLS certification
  • NBRC certification.
  • Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Basic Computer Skills.

Responsibilities

  • Providing cardiopulmonary care services in accordance with specific physician’s orders, Department policies and procedures.
  • Administering respiratory therapy treatments, understanding the purpose and possible side effects.
  • Setting up and monitoring mechanical ventilators and performing associated critical care duties.
  • Performing airway management and tracheal suctioning.
  • Performing arterial punctures to obtain arterial blood samples for blood gas analysis.
  • Following departmental equipment sterilization procedures.
  • Documenting all pertinent data on the patient’s medical record.
  • Maintaining knowledge of departmental forms, flow charts, and logbooks.
  • Performing all duties outlined in the “Shift Responsibilities:” section for the assigned shift.
  • Performing EKGs, typing report interpretations, and sending reports to physicians.
  • Demonstrating knowledge of age-specific differences in techniques, treatment modalities, oxygen concentrations, and medication doses.
  • Performing all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health errors.
  • Managing and operating equipment safely and correctly.
  • Inspecting and testing respiratory therapy equipment to ensure safe and efficient functioning.
  • Formulating a teaching plan based on identified patient learning needs and evaluating its effectiveness, including the patient's family.
  • Assessing patients, their needs, and their ability to tolerate treatment, and reassessing for response to treatment.
  • Reporting concerns about illegal or unethical behavior to a supervisor or the Compliance Officer.
