The Resource Specialist provides support to District Operations to ensure all programs offered by TFS are administered within the District. Responsibilities include supporting the District Forester with the delivery of Field Operation programs, which may involve preparing tract and stand maps, collecting property and stand data, interacting with clientele, drafting management plans, capacity building, conservation education, fire prevention, and special projects. The role also involves serving as a wildland firefighter and/or emergency responder on a statewide basis, including operating heavy firefighting equipment, using hand tools, and performing ground reconnaissance on wildfires. The employee must manage and account for assigned credit cards, vehicles, and equipment, ensuring they are maintained in good working order. A critical aspect of the role is meeting and annually maintaining a physical fitness standard, which includes completing a two-mile walk in 30 minutes or less with a 25-pound pack and obtaining required NWCG training and Red Card Certification. The employee will be expected to carry a communication device for 24-hour availability and respond to dispatch within 30 minutes of an emergency notification. The position involves operating heavy equipment with associated exposure to vibrations and noise, as well as exposure to harsh environmental conditions. Physical requirements include walking long distances, standing for extended periods, twisting, bending, reaching, kneeling, lifting and carrying heavy objects, and driving for long distances. Extended computer use is also required. The role may necessitate working long hours with minimal rest in primitive conditions and potentially dealing with emotionally stressful situations. Eligibility for out-of-state duty is possible based on meeting applicable fitness levels. Other duties as assigned.
