About The Position

Georgia Power (GPC) Resource Planning team is seeking a Resource Planning Project Manager to support the company's significant economic growth. This role is central to strategic initiatives, integrating technical, financial, regulatory, and operational perspectives to guide decisions on resources, infrastructure, and programs for Georgia's future. The position offers a unique opportunity to be involved in the planning, evaluation, and implementation of generation and transmission investments, ensuring reliable and affordable service for customers. The successful candidate will collaborate with subject matter experts, company leadership, and stakeholders across Georgia Power and Southern Company to influence decisions regarding the company's generation fleet, transmission expansion, customer programs, and long-term energy strategy. The department's key activities include leading the development and regulatory process for the Integrated Resource Plan (IRP), supporting the Request for Proposals (RFP) process for new generation resources, coordinating with other Southern Company utilities on system initiatives, and evaluating proposed energy policies. The Georgia Power Resource Planning Project Manager will act as the GPC lead for assigned initiatives, responsible for project leadership, stakeholder alignment, issue resolution, executive communication, and strategic coordination. This includes ensuring the successful execution of complex projects from concept through regulatory approval and implementation, leading generation capacity planning, procurement of purchased power, and managing legislative and regulatory policy initiatives. The role also involves oversight of Georgia Power's wholesale assets and other strategic resource planning projects, with the opportunity to delegate work to team analysts. The position requires leading the planning, coordination, and execution of regulatory filings, data request responses, and project deliverables, involving cross-functional stakeholders, executive presentations, analysis, and project management. The Resource Planning team operates on a hybrid work schedule, typically in the office four days a week, with flexibility for more days if needed. This position is based in Atlanta, Georgia, with potential for partial relocation assistance.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree is required.
  • Undergraduate degree in engineering, business, finance, or economics highly preferred.
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of experience preferred.

  • Desired areas of knowledge include marginal cost concepts, economic dispatch, the Integrated Resource Planning process, generation and transmission planning processes, generation technologies and operation, transmission interconnection and service policies, energy related federal and state legislation and regulation, renewable technologies and interconnection, financial analysis, typical power purchase agreement terms and conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the Georgia Power lead for assigned initiatives, providing overall project leadership, stakeholder alignment, issue resolution, executive communication, and strategic coordination across multiple organizations.
  • Ensures successful execution of complex projects from concept through regulatory approval and implementation.
  • Leads the development and implementation of the Company's Integrated Resource Plan.
  • Leads Georgia Power coordination and strategic alignment for generation capacity planning initiatives, including reserve margin studies, capacity needs assessments, load flexibility requirements, unit retirement evaluations, and generation fleet transition planning.
  • Manages the procurement of long-term purchased power from independent power producers.
  • Oversees electric utility planning-related legislative and regulatory policy initiatives.
  • Provides planning oversight of Georgia Power's wholesale assets and other strategic resource planning projects.
  • Assigns and delegates work to team analysts.
  • Leads the planning, coordination, and execution of assigned regulatory filings, data request responses, and other project deliverables, including coordination of cross-functional stakeholders, development of executive presentations, research and spreadsheet-based analysis, management of project activities, and successful completion of regulatory and business obligations.
