About The Position

2 East at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Milton is a 25-bed adult medical–surgical and telemetry unit that cares for patients with a wide range of medical and post-surgical needs. The Resource Nurse is responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient patient flow on the unit, maintaining and developing standards of practice, and ensuring staff deliver high-quality, patient-centered care. Requirements

Current licensure by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.
BSN required.
Basic Life Support certification required.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support required.
Telemetry experience required.

Nice To Haves

Current IV skill preferred, completion of IV competency within six months of hire.
At least two years medical-surgical experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Act as a change agent, developing clinically effective practice through the effective utilization and integration of evidence; setting, implementing and monitoring evidence-based policies, procedures and protocols.
Ensure co-ordination of the patients journey by planning and coordinating the Episode of care including the smooth transition to other settings, promoting effective Discharge and communication with interdisciplinary and interagency teams as Required.
Co-ordinate nursing interventions, influencing clinical decisions and Monitoring the quality of patient care provided through using expert clinical knowledge relevant to own field of practice, underpinned by theory and experience.
Act as a role model, creating a supportive ethos to empower staff to contribute to the Delivery of high-quality person-centered care.
Assigns all team members to patient assignments, including breaks and lunch.
Assists with patient cares as needed.
Attends Interdisciplinary rounds, UR and CM huddles daily, follow up with action items, and communicate to the team.
Directs admissions, discharge and general flow of patients.
Works in collaboration with the nursing Supervisors and the ED Resource Nurse.
Maintains adequate supplies on the unit.
Ensure all equipment on the unit is fully working in collaboration with bio-med.
Maintains and check all emergency equipment is in working order.
Creating an environment in which effective learning can take place.
Provides patient care utilizing the Nursing Process: Systematically assesses the health status of the patient, Analyzes and interprets data and makes nursing judgments regarding care, plans, implements and coordinates nursing interventions, evaluates outcome of nursing interventions, revises/updates plan of care documents nursing process clearly and concisely.
Considers specific culture beliefs and practices when caring for patients.
Utilizes interpreter services for patients with limited English proficiency.
Performs all duties in accordance with safety and other laws, rules and regulations as set forth by appropriate regulatory and governmental agencies and in accordance with established departmental and hospital policy and procedure.
Adheres to standard precautions.
Actively participates in unit-based Q.I. studies and unit meetings.
Attends and/or participates in in-house or outside training programs to improve and augment skills and knowledge.
Assesses, plans and implements nursing care of the patient recovering from moderate sedation and anesthesia, utilizing special skills, knowledge and judgment in observing, reporting and responding to symptoms and condition of patients and adheres to established philosophy, policies and procedures.
Employee maintains competencies (position specific and hospital-wide) required for the specific patient population served.
Performs all duties in accordance with safety and other laws, rules, and regulations set forth by appropriate regulatory and government agencies and in accordance with established department and hospital policies and procedures.
May be required to perform similar or related duties as may be necessary on an emergency basis or as designated by the department manager or supervisor.
The nature of the tasks/responsibilities required of employees in this position will likely expose them to blood and body fluids. Employees will be oriented to and required to understand and follow the standard precautions for infection control.
