About The Position

Alliance for Workforce Development, Inc. (AFWD) is seeking a Resource & Referral Coordinator for their Chico Office. This role is the first point of contact for clients, setting the tone for their experience and connecting them with services, information, and hope. AFWD is a nonprofit that operates state and federally funded employment and training programs through the America’s Job Center of California (AJCC) system, serving individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of clerical, or related, college level study, or two years of clerical and administrative assistant experience.
  • Top-tier customer service skills and a passion for helping people.
  • Comfort with technology and enjoyment in teaching others how to use it.
  • Organized, dependable, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to multitask efficiently without losing attention to detail.
  • Positive attitude and a team-first mindset.
  • Ability to use a personal computer, including word-processing, spreadsheet, and presentation graphics software.
  • Ability to type, accurately, 35 wpm.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to facilitate and/or instruct in a group-paced setting.
  • Ability to work in a participative team setting and possess strong facilitation skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Professional demeanor.
  • Must maintain a professional appearance.
  • Must be able to travel in/out of town for training, meetings, and to provide on-site program assistance.
  • Must possess a valid California Driver’s License and have a good driving record.
  • Must provide proof of automobile insurance which satisfies California Law.
  • Must agree to a background check required to work with youth.
  • Must provide “right to work” documentation upon appointment.
  • Ability to lift office products and supplies, up to 25 pounds waist height.
  • Ability to open filing cabinets, turning, twisting, kneeling, and bending as necessary.
  • Maintain good attendance and punctuality.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and guide customers from all walks of life with professionalism and care.
  • Assist customers in the computer lab, helping them navigate job search tools, online applications, resumes, and benefit portals.
  • Promote and explain AFWD programs, acting as an advocate for client referrals to workforce programs.
  • Maintain knowledge of community resources and serve as a referral partner.
  • Open and close the workforce center/lab, maintain office supply inventory, and ensure a clean, welcoming environment.
  • Track service data, keep accurate records, and assist with other front desk tasks.
  • Manage phones, walk-ins, data entry, and customer questions with calm and care.
  • Provide excellent customer service in a professional manner.
  • Assist in the creation of resumes, typing tests, pre-employment screenings, and applications.
  • Provide eligibility screening for various Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) programs and other specialty grants, ensuring documentation is accurate, complete, and retained.
  • Assist in maintaining the Management Information System (MIS), computerized client tracking system, and integrated job seeker and employer databases.
  • Assist with program orientations, group-paced computer training, and job readiness workshops.
  • Organize and prioritize job duties to meet objectives.
  • Attend staff meetings and other required meetings.
  • Assist with the facilitation of client workshops.
  • Answer incoming calls in a positive and professional manner.
  • Provide input, initiative, and embrace changes to improve systems and processes.
  • Participate in AJCC orientations, providing information related to eligibility for WIOA programs and services.
  • Assist in conducting basic skills testing when appropriate.
  • Refer customers to other appropriate community resources.
  • Provide assistance to the Program Manager, Business Service Representatives, and/or other program department heads to meet contract obligations.
  • Provide general education of Nevada County social services and assist with the on-line application process on Nevada County’s C4 system.
