About The Position

The Resource and Publication Designer is responsible for the production of the organization’s training print materials. You will work with the Creative Lead, the Communications team and the Training department to produce a variety of facilitator and participant guidebooks. You will be familiar with best practices that can be utilized to create logical and engaging materials as per Thunderbird's Visual Style Guide. You will work on a team with others who are also dedicated to work that has real value and meaning in the lives of others. Requirements

  • A certificate or equivalent in graphic design and four (4) years of graphic design work experience OR a bachelor’s degree in graphic design and two (2) years of graphic design work experience.
  • Proficiency with Adobe InDesign and Microsoft Word for print production of long document format educational materials (facilitator and participant guidebooks).
  • The skills to manage competing deadlines and coordination amongst teams.
  • The ability to focus on multiple projects, prioritize work duties and meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent planning, organizational and follow-up skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of Adobe InDesign and Microsoft Word.
  • Familiarity with best practices to create appealing, dynamic, and engaging products.
  • A commitment to uphold the First Nations defined principles of Ownership, Control, Access and Possession in line with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples in relation to the inclusion of Indigenous Knowledge, intellectual knowledge and intellectual property in the development of products.
  • A level of comfort working on bilingual design projects (English and French).
  • The ability to function autonomously, to be flexible and adapt to change.
  • A high level of professionalism and are able to always maintain confidentiality.
  • The ability to communicate clearly in English, both written and verbal.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of First Nations traditions and customs, which is considered a definite asset.
  • Fluency in a First Nations language, which is considered a definite asset.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design and execution process of curriculum-based projects.
  • Develop innovative workflows which are practical, aesthetically appealing and meet functional goals in accordance with the Visual Style Guide in Adobe InDesign.
  • Produce clean, effective layouts in a timely manner.
  • Champion the integrity of the product through all project stages, including design, layout and typography, project management, workflow and production.
  • Resolve project performance issues and problems including ongoing review of projects.
  • Undertake project management and organization of multiple projects and deadline prioritization in a cross-functional environment.
