About The Position

YWCA Toronto Employment Centre at 2425 Eglinton Avenue East, is a customer-focused program model for job seekers and employers, with focus on women, young women and gender-diverse people. This program is also open to men. The YWCA Toronto Employment Centre is part of the Integrated Employment Services (IES) in Toronto under WCG International Consultants Ltd. as the Service System Manager, funded by the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development through their Employment Ontario Division (EO). We act as a one-stop service for all jobseekers and employers. We use our resources to support all job seekers, especially those more distantly removed from the workforce, to reach their goals.

Requirements

  • In-depth knowledge of information processing normally acquired through completion of an undergraduate degree in Education, Social Science, Employment Counseling, Human Resources or another related discipline (Cases for Equivalency will be considered);
  • 3-5 years directly related experience
  • Strong knowledge of BJO program and it’s requirements
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the local labour market as well as the local community resources
  • Group Facilitation and Life Skills Training is required
  • Knowledge of vocational evaluation, career exploration, and career planning tool
  • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills; strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong digital literacy, including MS Office suite

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in employment counselling or related field will be considered an asset

Responsibilities

  • Conducts Career Decision Making/Career Exploration workshops for assessment of interests and aptitudes, personality, work preference, skills and values, career planning, career change, goal setting, labour market information, research on occupations and training, etc.
  • Conducts workshops on effective Job Search Strategies (cold calling, job posting analysis, salary negotiations etc.
  • Facilitates Resume, Interview, LinkedIn and other employment related workshops monthly
  • Facilitates BJO information session, BJO application preparation and BJO financial application workshops
  • Responsible for assessing each applicant against the BJO eligibility and suitability requirements.
  • Develops an individualized strategy with each client as part of their broader Employment Action Plan
  • Conducts Labour Market Research and research of Training Institutions
  • Reviews BJO applications for completeness and accuracy according to the submission check list and submits application to the Ministry
  • Acts as the subject matter expert for the BJO program
  • Assist clients with the research and application process for Apprenticeship training
  • Researches and implements up to date appropriate computerized software for use by clients in resume writing, interview skills and for job search purposes
