About The Position

The Helper will safely assist drivers and other employees in the collection of solid waste materials from a residential truck. At GFL Environmental, our motto is "Green For Life." Requirements

• High school diploma or GED preferred, but not required.
• 1–3 months of related physical labor experience is a plus, but we are happy to train the right candidate!
• A valid driver’s license is a bonus.
• A strong work ethic and the ability to meet safety-sensitive criteria.
• Standing, walking, and lifting in outdoor environments 90% of the time.
• Lifting/moving up to 65 lbs regularly and pushing up to 100 lbs with assistance.
• Navigating various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow).
• Valid work authorization in the country where the job is located is required.
• Successful candidates will be required to provide valid documentation confirming their eligibility to work in the country where the job is located prior to their start date.

Responsibilities

• Collect solid waste/recyclables from curbsides or customer premises.
• Sort materials into appropriate truck compartments and operate compaction equipment.
• Act as the "second set of eyes" for the driver.
• Help navigate tight spaces, direct the vehicle during backing maneuvers, and assist in keeping the cab and exterior clean.
• Conduct pre-route audits for equipment (brooms, shovels, etc.).
• Identify and tag prohibited waste items.
• Always wear GFL-required PPE, including reflective vests, gloves, and safety boots.
• Be the face of GFL.
• Maintain a professional demeanor when interacting with the public and work closely with supervisors to improve routing efficiency.
