Delivers a balanced program of instruction to a class when the assigned instructor is unavailable. This role involves instructing students, implementing and modifying lesson plans, maintaining accurate records, and adapting teaching methods to meet diverse student needs, including those with IEPs. The substitute teacher will work with support staff, implement behavioral protocols, observe and evaluate student progress, and maintain positive communication with parents and administration. Close supervision of students in all settings, including the playground, is required. Depending on the classroom, responsibilities may include assigning and grading work, administering tests, and complying with policies for physical intervention in emergencies. A commitment to a behavioral approach to motivate student learning is essential. In applicable classrooms, assistance with self-help skills such as dressing, diapering, toileting, and eating may be required.
