Requirements

  • Residential -The ability to support constructive family contact and involvement in community activities as appropriate.
  • Resi - Ability to engage, support, and work effectively with others, including but not limited to the treatment team and other internal and external stakeholders.
  • The temperament to work with, and care for, children and families with special needs.
  • Must demonstrate sensitivity to Elk Hill’s service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
  • Ability to work independently and without direct supervision.
  • Ability to provide timely, thorough and accurate documentation of mentoring activities as required.
  • Experience working with children and/or adolescents.
  • Willingness to travel and work non-traditional business hours.
  • Exhibit consistent personal integrity in dealings with youth, families, co-workers, and agency personnel.
  • Must have up-to-date certification in the facility’s Behavior Management Program and have the willingness and ability to apply such skills as needed and/or required in the day-to-day interactions with youth (we provide training).
  • Must have up-to-date certifications in approved courses for CPR/First Aid (we provide training).
  • Must have a valid certificate in an approved medication aide training class (we provide training).
  • Maintain valid driver's license and good driving record.
  • High-School Diploma or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a positive role model for youth, providing support, coaching, training, and supervision within a healthy, positive relationship. This person will primarily mentor female residents.
  • Work with youth to develop interpersonal, communication, social, and problem-solving skills, as well as age-appropriate behaviors and constructive use of leisure time.
  • Primary group homes served will be Mountain View, Fair Meadows, and Spring Garden. Charlottesville & Fluvanna Areas.
  • Work closely with the Program Director to support the youth and meeting their needs.
  • Provide and supervise recreational and social activities based on the goals established collaboratively with the youth, parents, and placing agency.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of youth, flexibility, a non-threatening manner, respect for youth’s autonomy, confidentiality, socio-cultural values, personal goals, lifestyle choices, and family interactions, and appropriate professional boundaries and ethics.
  • Provide the number of hours per month/week contracted by the placing agency and as needed.
  • Complete session progress notes for each session and provide to supervisor, as required.
  • Attend FAPT, treatment team, or family engagement meetings as requested by supervisor.
  • Maintain current certification in CPR and First Aid.
  • Maintain a driving record that meets the requirements of Elk Hill.
  • Maintain liability coverage, at the level required by Elk Hill, on personal auto insurance policy.
  • Participate in face-to-face supervision with supervisor at least once per month.
  • Work cooperatively with all Elk Hill staff to improve the quality of the whole organization.
  • Other duties as assigned.
