About The Position

Residential Support Workers are responsible for assisting in any and all aspects of daily living that are required by the resident. Support Workers will be responsible for support in the completion of daily routines, nutrition management, health management, appointment scheduling, observation and documentation of daily events and activities, medication administration and management, and housekeeping, as well as providing comfort and companionship to the residents.

Requirements

  • Human Services, Personal Support Worker, Health Care Aid background is an asset.
  • One to two years’ experience is an asset.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Must submit to a criminal record check with vulnerable sectors.
  • Must submit to a Social Development check prior to employment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in any and all aspects of daily living that are required by the resident.
  • Support in the completion of daily routines, nutrition management, health management, appointment scheduling, observation and documentation of daily events and activities, medication administration and management, and housekeeping.
  • Provide comfort and companionship to the residents.
  • Provide support at levels ranging from total care with a resident’s activities of daily living to light support and supervision.
  • Become competent in any and all specialized supports required for a resident.
  • Keep detailed daily observation records.
  • Provide support with the administration of medication, including detailed record-keeping and inventory.
  • Support youth with diverse behavioural needs using trauma-informed and person-centered approaches to de-escalate conflicts and promote emotional regulation.
  • Model appropriate behaviour and communication to reinforce boundaries, respect, and health coping mechanisms.
  • Respond to behavioural crises using approved intervention techniques while maintaining a calm, supportive environment.
  • Take an active role in planning, implementing, and evaluating Individual Service Plans that meet residents’ needs.
  • Engage in ongoing training for the purposes of professional development and competency in pertinent tasks.
  • Know all emergency procedures (e.g. evacuation protocol).
  • Use first aid training to assess and proceed in the event of a medical emergency.
  • Remain awake and vigilant throughout the night for overnight staff.
