About The Position

Mental Health Connecticut (MHC) is seeking a full-time Residential Specialist for its Mental Health Waiver program. This role involves providing Recovery Assistant (RA) and Community Support Program (CSP) services to individuals in recovery, focusing on skill-building to maximize independence in their living environments. The program aims to provide mental health and substance abuse rehabilitation services and supports necessary for individuals to achieve and maintain the highest degree of independent functioning.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a related college degree or 2 years experience in human services/mental health field required.
  • Valid driver's license, auto registration, and insurance.
  • Prior work experience with case management in community mental health/human services.

Nice To Haves

  • Recovery Assistant certificate strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Implements the treatment plan using skills lists, skill-builder toolkits, and curricula for skill-building interventions.
  • Documents services provided using Electronic Health Record software and DMHAS databases (e.g., Sandata) for billing purposes.
  • Teaches, coaches, and assists with daily living and self-care skills, including transportation, nutrition, meal planning, housekeeping, personal grooming, financial management, leisure activities, communication, personal safety, first aid, and problem-solving.
  • Teaches recovery skills to prevent relapse, such as symptom recognition, coping strategies, emotional management, relaxation techniques, medication management, and advance directives for illness.
  • Assists individuals with appropriate dress and hygiene, provides supportive assistance and supervision, and offers short-term relief for caregivers.
  • Develops self-advocacy skills for accessing natural supports and resources.
  • Communicates about developing healthy habits, the importance of personal commitments, and adherence to appointments.
  • Provides health and wellness education.
  • Conducts group treatment for up to four persons focusing on ADL skills.
  • Maintains a productivity rate of at least 90% of billable hours.
  • Acts as a liaison with participants' therapists, referral sources, and community agencies.
  • Willing and able to drive a personally owned vehicle locally and within the state, and may be required to transport individuals.
