About The Position

Goodwill of Western and Northern Connecticut seeks compassionate individuals with a great love for helping others. As a Residential Specialist, you would be taking care of and supporting program participants with disabilities in either a group home or personal place of residence.

Requirements

  • Satisfactory driving record, current driver’s license, and daily access to a reliable, registered, and insured vehicle for frequent in-state driving.
  • High School Diploma and experience working with persons with disabilities are required.
  • First Aid and CPR are required (Goodwill can provide training after hire).
  • Must be able to lift/carry 40 lbs. and stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to stay awake while performing overnight positions.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with the development and implementation of individual service plans and/or behavioral plans for funded participants and Community Resident Participants to transition the individual to greater independence in the community as appropriate.
  • Provides daily briefing of activities and assignments to supervisor.
  • Completes notes as assigned by supervisor including daily documentation and data collection for Individual Service, Behavioral Plans, and/or Therap ISP Data as necessary. Notes must be completed at the end of each shift and must reflect the accurate times of service and all services provided.
  • Works with program participants as assigned at sites to ensure successful and timely completion of all assignments. If the participant refuses services, the supervisor must be notified immediately.
  • Provides round-trip transportation to outings and/or appointments for assigned program participants as necessary. This will require use of Goodwill-issued vans when working at a Goodwill Community Residence.
  • If working in a 24-hour home or assigned 1:1 to a client, must keep client in line-of-sight as defined for the person served. If working in Wahlstrom Residence, must conduct regular safety monitoring checks as set forth by Wahlstrom Coordinator
  • Performs personal care assistance as required in Community Residences
  • All overnight shifts are awake positions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
