About The Position

Services during the overnight shift. This position ensures child safety, required staffing and supervision, effective staff performance, timely crisis response, accurate documentation and timekeeping, and a safe, well-coordinated transition to the day shift. The Overnight Supervisor maintains an active campus presence and works closely with the Administrator on Duty (AOD) and Residential leadership.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Demonstrated ability to manage staffing coverage, supervise employees, respond to crises, make sound decisions, and maintain accountability during overnight operations.
  • Strong organizational, documentation, computer, oral/written communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Self-motivated, solutions-driven team player, and able to handle challenging situations in a professional and courteous manner
  • Commitment to trauma-informed and culturally responsive practice

Nice To Haves

  • associate or bachelor's degree in human services or a related field preferred.
  • Experience in residential child welfare, behavioral health, congregate care, or a comparable youth-serving setting is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Confirm the resident census, each child’s location, supervision level, and staff assignment at the start of the shift and as changes occur; maintain required staffing ratios, enhanced supervision, and one-to-one coverage.
  • Ensure overnight checks, wand verifications, supervision logs, assignment sheets, and face-to-face warm handoffs are completed accurately and on time.
  • Conduct documented rounds in every cottage to verify child safety, staff alertness, radio access, secure doors/windows, and safe conditions.
  • Ensure staff follow agency procedures for missing children, medical emergencies, fire, evacuation, and other emergency situations.
  • Review overnight staffing against census and supervision needs; manage call-outs, lateness, early departures, and shortages by contacting relief staff and reassigning qualified employees.
  • Assign float/relief staff based on campus safety needs, document staffing changes, and manage staff breaks while maintaining continuous qualified coverage according to ratio.
  • When necessary to prevent a supervision gap or maintain required ratios, provide direct DSP coverage until qualified relief arrives while remaining available for campus emergencies and notifying the AOD of unresolved shortages.
  • Maintain an active presence in cottages and availability by radio/agency phone; monitor staff attendance, alertness, supervision practices, conduct, documentation, and completion of assigned duties.
  • Serve as the direct supervisor of all overnight DSP’s by providing immediate direction, coaching, and support through individual supervision.
  • Ensure incident, restraint, medical, supervision, and other required documentation is completed accurately before staff leave.
  • Review staff timecards and attendance records for accuracy.
  • Support safe bedtime, overnight, wake-up, hygiene, medication, transportation, and school preparation routines.
  • Collaborate with all departments across campus to ensure relevant information is communicated effectively.
  • Participate in mandatory weekly team meetings held during daytime hours and remain informed of program updates, operational concerns, resident needs, staffing matters, and agency directives.
  • Attend and complete all required staff trainings, in-services, certifications, and recertifications within established deadlines, and ensure required training and certification requirements are maintained.
  • Monitor and ensure overnight staff maintain all required trainings, certifications, and recertifications, and follow up on expiring or outstanding requirements to ensure compliance.
