About The Position

The Iowa Department of Corrections is seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to join their team as a Residential Officer at a 24-hour community-based corrections facility. This role involves direct service provision with high-contact interactions with clients, focusing on preparing them for successful reentry into society. The position emphasizes fostering personal growth, reducing reoffending risk through programming, and supporting pro-social behaviors. The Residential Officer will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, observing and assessing client behaviors, and building quality relationships. Responsibilities include facility security checks, searches, and client transportation. Training will be provided in effective behavior change techniques like motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral strategies. The role also involves supporting case managers and clients in achieving goals, with consideration for individual needs, disabilities, trauma, and cultural responsiveness. Safety is a priority, requiring preparedness for emergencies using defensive tactics and life-saving measures. The position values integrity, ethical conduct, and attention to detail.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school, GED, or equivalency.
  • Must satisfactorily complete a background investigation, including criminal history data.
  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid driver’s license.
  • Must adhere to the use of universal precautions in the performance of job duties to minimize the potential risk for exposure to blood borne pathogens.
  • Will be required to become certified in First Aid and CPR.
