About The Position

The purpose of the Residential Life Trainer position involves overseeing and participating in the care, supervision and welfare of students in a residential setting. A trainer will assist the students with additional needs such as health impairments, multiple disabilities and/or behavior issues. The Residential Life Trainer will provide assistance with personal hygiene, behavioral management, socialization and leisure activities. A trainer will also assist with weekend transportation and field trips to assure the safety of the students.

Requirements

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience in an age-appropriate childcare setting or a goal- oriented setting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience in residential or goal-oriented program for adults; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Annual recertification of NC Interventions (NCI) training.
Annual transportation training requirements.

Nice To Haves

Signing at all times and attending sign language class as needed.

Responsibilities

Assist students with developing a functional understanding of personal growth including punctuality, cooking, cleaning, budgeting, laundry, formal social skills and behavior.
Provide constant monitoring of students to ensure safety at all times.
Assist with personal hygiene, independent living skills, first aid, manners, survival skills, self-esteem, developing good character, assisting with services from the community, proper etiquette, and nutrition.
Successfully initially secure and maintain annual recertification of NC Interventions (NCI) training in order to prevent the use of restraints and seclusion.
Assist students with homework, class projects, and reading.
Supervise the students at all times on or off the campus.
Communicate expectations to students and ensure students follow school policies.
Provide emotional and social support to all students.
Provide field trip monitoring.
Decorate dorm area to provide a friendly home-like atmosphere.
Refer students to the Student Health Center for medical attention if needed.
Serve as an interpreter for students in the following settings; TV programs, securing services in the community, etc.
Responsible for being a positive role model for our students.
Attending scheduled workshops as required.
Signing at all times and attending sign language class as needed.
Drive and/or monitor on assigned transportation for students to and from home to ensure their safety when assigned.
Drive or monitor for scheduled/ approved fieldtrips for fun or educational activities with the students when assigned.
Complete and maintain annual transportation training requirements.
Weekly Lesson Plans.
Maintain, coordinate and post activities for your dorm area.
Explain and post dorm rules, bedtime / wake up schedules, meal schedule, homework/ study hall schedule (ERC hours), recreational/leisure activities calendar and special programs.
Plan and coordinate activities with Residential Life Coordinator to include all students.
Consult and cooperate with persons responsible for implementation of student IEP.
Prepare and maintain various forms of written documentation of information related to the students.
Make Student Safety Check Sheet entries as needed.
Complete Incident and Accident reports as required.
Document and complete behavior logs as directed by immediate supervisor.
Perform related work as required by the supervisor.
